Profile
Jane Messer's writing and research is principally in the broad area of narrative fiction, and her work has included publications in the genres of novel, short story, personal essay, and to a lesser extent, poetry and documentary film writing. Her non-fiction and scholarly writing significantly integrates narrative and fictional devices in its construction, and in a current project on writing Australian corporate cultures, she is intersecting ethnography with fiction writing. Another area of research focus is on the figure of the mother in literature and creative memoir, with a particular interest in Australian representations of the maternal heroine, mothering and motherhood, and the impact of feminism on this literature since the 1970s.
