Profile
Marita Bullock is a full-time research assistant for Dr. Nicole Moore's ARC funded cultural history project about literary obscenity and censorship in twentieth century Australia . She is responsible for compiling a bibliography of every literary book that was banned between the years 1933-1975, drawing upon censorship files from the National Archives of Australia. This dataset is a work in progress that is currently accessible via its host, the Austlit gateway.
Prior to her employment at Macquarie , Marita Bullock completed her PhD (UNSW) on Walter Benjamin, trash and contemporary visual culture in light of theoretical debates in the fields of cultural memory, modernity and postmodernity. She is currently writing a book titled Memory Fragments: Excavations of Trash in Contemporary Visual Culture , which will be published by Network Books and Curtin University Press, as part of the series ‘Vectors: New Writing in Cultural Studies.'
Her next research project will focus on figurations of melancholy and dereliction in contemporary visual culture, theory and text.
